About the Book

‘Remember: Demons lie’

Locked away inside the fortified walls of Oxford’s St Wilfred’s College, surrounded by alchemists sworn to protect them, Taylor and Sacha are safe from the Darkness. For now.

But time is short. In seven days Sacha will turn 18, and the ancient curse that once made him invincible will kill him, unleashing unimaginable demonic horror upon the world.

There is one way to stop it.

Taylor and Sacha must go to where the curse was first cast – the medieval French city of Carcassonne – and face the demons.

The journey will be dangerous. And monsters are waiting for them.

But as Darkness descends on Oxford, their choice is stark. They must face everything that scares them, or lose everything they love.

secret-cityReview ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½

I remember really enjoying The Secret Fire when I read it last year, so I was eager to read The Secret City as soon as I could.

Like the first book, The Secret City was immense fun to read; fantastically paced, and once again I absolutely tore through it! Eating up the twists and turns the authors kept throwing at us.

As Sacha’s 18th birthday approaches his & the world’s clock ticks down, the pressure grows on everyone grows and the tension ratchets right up (and then some!). Will Taylor manage to master her powers in time? Her training would suggest not. They just don’t have the time she needs. Especially when the person responsible for summoning the demons, makes himself known.

I really love the four characters that make up the main quartet. There is a real sense of jeopardy as they make their way to Carcassonne. Right until the end, there is a real chance that one or all of them may not survive.

The Secret City was fantastic sequel, easily a match for the first book. It had me gripped from the very first page and I’m sure it will for you as well!

My copy of The Secret City by CJ Daugherty and Carina Rozenfeld was provided by the publisher via Netgalley for review purposes. This in no way affected my opinions.

I really must switch up my genres (got caught in the Christmas romance novels at the moment!). This sounds fab – added The Secret Fire to my wishlist!
