We’ll keep quiet about the various ebooks acquired at the end of last year… 😉 But lets talk about the books I’ve acquired so far this year.

The Language of Dying by Sarah Pinborough

Tonight is a special, terrible night.

A woman sits at her father’s bedside watching the clock tick away the last hours of his life. Her brothers and sisters – all traumatised in their own ways, their bonds fragile – have been there for the past week, but now she is alone.

And that’s always when it comes.

As the clock ticks in the darkness, she can only wait for it to find her…

I saw this one in Watertstones today and knew I had to bring a copy home with me. It just looks amazing and sounds like it will be great too! I didn’t realise until I was writing this post that I have another book from Sarah Pinbourogh. I bought a copy of Beauty a few weeks back.

The Bookman by Lavie Tidhar

A masked terrorist has brought London to its knees – there are bombs inside books, and nobody knows which ones. On the day of the launch of the first expedition to Mars, by giant cannon, he outdoes himself with an audacious attack.

For young poet Orphan, trapped in the screaming audience, it seems his destiny is entwined with that of the shadowy terrorist, but how?

I’ve seen this one in the shops loads of times and I’ve always been tempted, but never succumbed, however I picked up a second-hand copy in Oxfam today, for a bargain 99p!

Death and Co by DJ McCune

Adam is a Luman, and it runs in the family. Escorting the dead from life into light, Adam must act as guide to those taken before their time. As his older brothers fall into their fate however, Adam clings to his life as a normal kid – one who likes girls, hates the Head and has a pile of homework to get through by Monday morning.

When Adam gets a terrible premonition he realises that he must make a devastating choice, risking his life, his family and his destiny.

I saw this one in the shops when I was heading into work and was really tempted. Tempted enough that I bought it via kindle later that day.

What books have you acquired recently you are excited about?
