2010 Challenges

I’m going to do something a little different this year, and keep a track of all my challenges in the one place.

One little rule I’m adding to all challenges this year, is that I should wherever possible draw qualifying books from my existing TBR pile.

Key: Normal Text – Possible Read |Bold – Read | Link – Review

Awesome Author Challenge

The idea behind this challenge is to read works by authors who have been recommended to you time and again, yet somehow you haven’t managed to read any books by those authors. These are the authors that everyone else tells you are awesome, thus the "Awesome Author Challenge" title.

Challenge runs 1/1/10 to 31/12/10

Moderate: Choose six authors and read at least one title from each author.

Planned Authors:

  1. Laurie Halse Anderson
  2. Jonathon Safron Foer
  3. Carlos Ruiz Zafón
  4. Gabriel García Márquez
  5. Terri Windling
  6. Kazuo Ishiguro

Status: 1/6

2010readfrommyshelves

So with 2010 just around the corner, I’ve decided to try to lessen the weight on my bookshelves, by reading books from my shelves, and then passing the books on to someone else: a friend, relative, the library, used book store, swap them, just as long as the book leaves my house once it has been read.

Challenge runs 1/1/10 to 31/12/10

Target = 20 Books
  1. The Bird Room by Chris Killen
    Passed to a friend
  2. Swimmer by Bill Broady
Donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care
  3. Out of Time by John Marsden
    Given Away via Bookmooch
  4. The Thirteen Treasures by Michele Harrison
Donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care
  5. What I Was by Meg Rosoff
Donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care
  6. Lex Trent versus the Gods by Alex Bell
Donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care

Status: 6/20

Just My Size YA Reading Challenge – Read 25 Young Adult Novels.
In 2009, I could have easily gone for the supersize me option of 75 books! But as I’m wanting to reduce the TBR pile this year (and widen the range of books I read) I’ve decided to set a lower target. I’ll still probably complete it before Easter though!)
