Dream Magic by Joshua Khan

About Dream Magic

A fabulously exciting sequel to the fantasy adventure SHADOW MAGIC.

People throughout Gehenna are disappearing, even the feared executioner Tyburn. Many of the nobles believe the kidnappings to be the work of the northern trolls, raiding south for the winter, and when Baron Sable and others head off to fight them, Castle Gloom is left guarded by only the squires.

Lily is struggling with her growing necromantic powers. The castle fills with ghosts, drawn like moths to a flame by the brightness of her magic. Zombies roam the country, some left over from those raised in SHADOW MAGIC, others awakened by Lily. Families are troubled by the returning dead, so Lily tries to incorporate them into day-to-day life, much to the resentment of the living.

Then Lily is attacked in her own castle by a mysterious sorcerer known as Dreamweaver, a young man determined to conquer Gehenna using jewel-spiders, strange crystalline creatures whose bite doesn’t kill, but sends victims to sleep. Lily soon discovers that Dreamweaver is harvesting dreams to fuel his magic.

Lily enters the realm of sleep known as the Dream Time, in an attempt to awaken all the captive dreamers. Instead she finds herself trapped within a dream, one where her family is still alive. With the help of Thorn and the ever loyal Hades, she must somehow overcome the evil Dreamweaver by using his own magic against him – and reclaim her kingdom.

Review 🕸🕸🕸🕸🕸

I really enjoyed the first book in the series, Shadow Magic. So when I was invited to join the blog tour for the sequel, I jumped at the chance!

I started my review of Shadow Magic by saying:

Shadow Magic by Joshua Khan was so much fun! Packed with adventure, great characters, intrigue, humour, and even a giant bat. What more could you want?

That goes for Dream Magic as well!

From the off, it’s a joy to be back in the gloomy world of Gehenna! following Lilly and Thorn on their latest adventure. The kind of friendship Lily and Thorn have is exactly the kind I like reading the best. Whether it be in a middle-grade, YA, or ‘adult’ book. You can see it in the way they mock each other even when they’re apart. 😉

As Lilly starts her rule proper, trouble was never going to be far away, and it’s not long before it comes calling! With Tyburn out of the picture, it’s down once again to our favourite pair to save the day. Joshua Khan has crafted another cracking adventure, packed with surprises, creeps, and twists to keep you turning the pages.

My copy of Dream Magic was provided by the publisher as part of the blog tour for review purposes, but this in no away affects my opinion.

Author Information

Joshua Khan was born in Britain. From very early on he filled himself with the stories of heroes, kings and queens until there was hardly any room for anything else. He can tell you where King Arthur was born* but not what he himself had for breakfast.

So, with a head stuffed with tales of legendary knights, wizards and great and terrible monsters it was inevitable Joshua would want to create some of his own. Hence SHADOW MAGIC. Josh lives in London with his family, but he’d rather live in a castle. It wouldn’t have to be very big, just as long as it had battlements.

*Tintagel, in case you were wondering.
