The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon

About The Mime Order

Paige Mahoney has escaped the brutal prison camp of Sheol I, but her problems have only just begun: many of the survivors are missing and she is the most wanted person in London…

As Scion turns its all-seeing eye on the dreamwalker, the mime-lords and mime-queens of the city’s gangs are invited to a rare meeting of the Unnatural Assembly. Jaxon Hall and his Seven Seals prepare to take centre stage, but there are bitter fault lines running through the clairvoyant community and dark secrets around every corner. Then the Rephaim begin crawling out from the shadows. But where is Warden? Paige must keep moving, from Seven Dials to Grub Street to the secret catacombs of Camden, until the fate of the underworld can be decided.

Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Read my review of book one in the series: The Bone Season.

I’m not sure if there was a change in her style, or that I was more used to it, but I enjoyed Alana Kerr’s narration a bit more this time around, it did feel a bit more dynamic.

Paige, may have escaped the prison of Sheol I, but is she any more free, now she’s back in London and the world of the Mime Lords? The answer is no, not really. Book two is all about learning more about Paige’s world, and just what she’s going to do about it. Made harder as the net slowly starts to tighten, leaving her fewer and fewer choices.

I loved the re-imagining of London, and the world of the Mime Lords, just off centre enough to be recognisable and yet strange and darker at the same time.

Paige continues to be a fantastic character and I loved following her journey. Samantha Shannon continues the excellent world-building, began in book one, expanding and filling in the gaps. I won’t say I guessed the ending, at least not until we were nearly upon it, but I wasn’t shocked either. What I will say is, I can’t wait for book 3!
