I’ve a good year for fantastic books so far in 2016. A fair few of these were by authors that were new to me, therefore this list came together quite quickly!

Fran Wilde

I’ve listened or read 3 books by Fran Wilde this year, Updraft and Cloudbound, both of which I intend to review in the next week or so, and her novella The Jewel and her Lapidary. All of which are well worth your time. Cloudbound is one of those rare sequels I enjoyed even more than the first book!

Katherine Webber

Katherine’s debut was every bit as good as I hoped it would. Wing is one of my favourite characters I’ve met this year.

Eugine Lambert

The Sign of One had me gripped and I tore though it on the way down to UKYACX earliernthis year!

Holly Bourne

Yeah. I know. I should have read Holly (and Am I Normal Yet?) Aggggees ago, but I have now ok! Incidently the audiobook’s narrator is perfect!

Paedar Ó Gullín

My god, The Call had me gripped and terrified in equel measure!

Alwyn Hamilton

Rebel of the Sands is a fantastic world with an amazing main character.

Becky Chambers

If you’ve heard great things about A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, then every one of them is correct!

Simon Morden

Down Station suprised me really, it was a bit of a random pick to use up an Audible credit, mostly chosen for the cover (and yes the synopsis but I really ended up enjoying it.

Check out my Q&A with Simon

Max Porter

Grief is the Thing With Feathers is a really beutifully told story.

Heidi Heilig

As I said just after I first finished The Girl From Everywhere. Sometimes its the story. Sometimes it’s the characters. And sometimes, like with this one, it’s the feeling you get when reading it.

Well, that’s my list. Be sure to take a look at everybody else’s. Have you read any of my selections? Which new to you author did you enjoy the most this year?

I bought The Long Way To a Small Angry Planet a couple of days ago. I think I have only seen wonderful reviews for it. I was excited when I saw that the ebook was on sale. I really want to read Grief Is a Thing With Feathers, too. Thanks for sharing your list!

I forgot about Fran Wilde. I was going to listen to her on audio, but other books came up. I am glad you liked them! I read and enjoyed the novella.

Did you read it because of Carl’s review as well?

What a great collection of authors! I love that Alwyn Hamilton is on your list, I think she’s an amazing addition to YA. I think my top new to me author this past year would be Lisa Heathfield after I read Paper Butterflies.
