Top Ten Tuesday : Characters I’d Like To Check In With

Check in

Find out more about Top Ten Tuesday Here

Today’s TTT is the Top Ten Characters You’d Like To Check In With (meaning, the book or series is over and you so just wish you could peek in on the “life” you imagine they are leading years down the line after the story ends).

Well, any of the Harry Potter gang would easily have made the list in the past, but through Pottermore, we do get pretty regular updates, so I’ve decided not to include them this time around.

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
Richard and Door from Neverwhere

Even though he decided to make London Below his home, he’s definitely still a bit of a fish out of water when we leave him, it’s be great to see how he’s settled in.

The Graveyard Book

Nobody Owens from The Graveyard Book
I love the book, but I do find the ending a bit melancholy, leaving his friends and family behind, I’d love to see how he’s doing a year or so after we leave him.

Northern Lights

Will (& Lyra) from His Dark Materials.
We’ve seen a little about Lyra since the final book in the trilogy, but I’d love to see how Will is getting on.

The Knife of Never Letting Go

Todd and Viola from Chaos Walking
Okay, we got to see a little more in the short stories which accompanied the most recent paperback editions.

Airborn by Kenneth Oppel

Matt & Kate from The Airborn Trilogy
I can’t imagine that they slipped into a quiet life somehow… Be fun to see what trouble they’ve got into in the years since we last saw them!

Thieves Like Us by Stephen Cole

Johan and the team from Thieves Like Us
It’s a long time since I last checked in with these guys, I wonder what they are up to?

Dark Life by Kat Falls

Ty and Gemma from Dark Life and Rip Tide
Ty & Gemma were some of my favourite characters in the years I read the books, I’d love to meet up with them again!

Leviathan Scott Westerfeld

Deryn & Alek from the Leviathan series
Who wouldn’t want more airship adventures?

TheLatentPowersofDylanFontainebyAprilLurie.jpg

Dylan from The Latent Powers of Dylan Fontaine
I remember Dylan and his family and friends being a lot of fun to meet at the time and as we left them, they were just about sorting their lives out, it’d be nice to see how they are doing!

T.C. Alé and Augie from My Most Excellent Year
My Most Excellent Year has one of my favourite cast of characters, I’d love to meet up with them again and see how they are doing!

Who would you most like to check in with again?

I’d love to see how Bod is doing as well, I’d love to see him happy and surrounded by people he loves. I have to read the last book in the Chaos Walking trilogy but I’m really nervous, its such an intense series.

Good list! A few of these have me thinking I need to either read them or revisit for myself!

The only characters I’m familiar with from your list are Richard and Door and I really didn’t like that book at all. But regardless of that, I am curious to know how Richard made out in Neverwhere.

I completely forgot about Will and Lyra when making my list. I think it’s because it has been so long since I read His Dark Materials and I don’t quite remember the storyline that well. But I agree it would be really interesting to see how they are getting along now.

It was the gut-punch of an ending that sticks with me; knowing it was the ‘only’ ending that would be right, and hating it for that…

Funny, but it seems to be the series that call to us more than stand-alones. Funny.

    Here’s my Top Ten!

I think it’s because we spend so much more time getting to know them.
