2012 has been a another great year for going to see some great live music, so, as the year comes to a close, it’s time for a quick run down of all the great gigs I’ve been to in the past 12 months!
Explosions in the Sky Feel oddly mixed about this one. They sounded awesome, but they essentially walked on stage, played their set, then walked off again. Didn’t appear to connect with the audience much. Left the venue feeling a little cold rather than buzzing. Which was a shame, because as I say, they otherwise sounded awesome.
Slow Club I’m struggling to remember much about this one, I do remember it being a fun night though!
The Twilight Sad Not the best photo, and unfortunately due to technical issues not the best gig, still when could get going they were pretty awesome.
Ana is at fault for me liking this band, totally infectious music that you can’t help but get caught up in live. Enjoyed them so much I went to see them again in September!
Laura Marling If you’ve not seen Laura live, you really need to. Beautiful voice that sounds even better live
Allo Darlin Enjoyed them so much in Feb, that I went to see them again. You can’t help but come out of one of their gigs happy.
Martyn Joseph / Luke Jackson Martyn Joseph is easily one of my favourite artists of the last ten years or so. I’ve seen him live a few times (almost always just him and a guitar) and he never disappoints. During this gig he came off the stage to walk up the aisles while performing one track and ended up standing one of the chairs right in front of me. Still managed to fill the room with his voice, even with no amplification.
His support act, a young singer songwriter called Luke Jackson, was also superb, his CD quickly becoming one of my favourites of the year.
Show of Hands: Didn’t manage to get any photos at this one but it was a wonderful way to end the live music year. Show of Hands have made a name for themselves for their live performances over the years, so while I don’t listen to too much of them during the year, I was really looking forward to this one, and I wasn’t disappointed!
The highlight for me was when they were joined on stage by the support act, Leonard Podolak and, Matt Gordon or a haunting rendition of Katrina off of new Wake the Union Album.
Gigs aren’t the only music I’ve enjoyed of course, I’ve also made a point of listening to lots of music this year, both new and old, so I thought I’d take a look at what my last.fm profile had to say:
Top Artists in 2012
Top Tracks in 2012
So, who were your musical obsessions in the last year? and is there anyone I absolutley must listen to in 2013?
