Review: The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks by E. Lockhart

Frankie Landau-Banks at age 14:

  • Debate Club.
  • Her father’s “bunny rabbit.”
  • A mildly geeky girl attending a highly competitive boarding school.

Frankie Landau-Banks at age 15:

  • A knockout figure.
  • A sharp tongue.
  • A chip on her shoulder.
  • And a gorgeous new senior boyfriend: the supremely goofy, word-obsessed Matthew Livingston.

Frankie Laundau-Banks.

No longer the kind of girl to take “no” for an answer. Especially when “no” means she’s excluded from her boyfriend’s all-male secret society. Not when her ex boyfriend shows up in the strangest of places. Not when she knows she’s smarter than any of them. When she knows Matthew’s lying to her. And when there are so many, many pranks to be done.

Frankie Landau-Banks, at age 16:

  • Possibly a criminal mastermind.

This is the story of how she got that way.

I’m so far behind on reviews it’s not funny! (and yet I’m catching up on books left to review as well.) Must. Get. Reading!

So, I finished this one almost exactly a month ago, along with, Paper TownsDylan Fontaine and all within a three day period. And what a blast those three days were! :D

This was such a fun book to read, packed with boarding school shenanigans, friends, pranking, and a dash of romance. The book can be read as just that, if you wanted to, and you could enjoy it immensely. But there is some depth there as well. Running underneath the froth is a smart coming of age tale, as Frankie attempts to find her place and worth in the world.

Fed up with the status quo, Frankie, challenges the power and influence of, The Loyal Order of the Basset Hound, an all male secret society at her school, subverting and controlling it’s members without their knowledge.

If you’ve not already done so, then I can definitely recommend you add to or move this one up your TBR piles!

This is one of my favorites in YA reads. Loved it. Glad to see you enjoyed it, too.

I could use a fun read that also has a bit of depth. I seem to have been polarized lately: fun OR deep. I am reading The Passage right now which is rocking my world, but I’ll put this on the list for later.
