Review: Paper Towns by John Green
Who is the real Margo? Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar.
So when she cracks open a window and climbs into his life – dressed like a ninja and summoning him for an ingenious campaign of revenge – he follows. After their all-nighter ends and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma, has now become a mystery. She has disappeared.
Q soon learns that there are clues in her disappearance …and they are for him. Trailing Margo’s disconnected path across the USA, the closer Q gets, the less sure he is of who he is looking for.

Once again John Green has written a fantastic novel, with engaging characters whose voices are always spot-on.
For some reason, I never devour his books straight away, I buy them and then they live on the shelves for months. This, despite me loving each book of his I’ve read, and this one is no different.
Paper Towns is the one that one him the Edgar Award (Young Adult, 2009), so you would expect a nice little mystery to go along with the great cast. And the mystery of Margo’s disappearance, and the connection between her and Quentin, certainly keeps the pages turning.
But, as I said, it is his characters, that really make Green’s books shine, always so genuine and real, and with so much depth, there is always something to them that first appearances, and it’s the unravelling of those layers that John Green is so good at.
Well worth the wait! Just need to get hold of Will Grayson/Will Grayson next. (and try to read it before it slips into the depths of my TBR pile).

I loved this book, and yet I still haven’t picked up another book by Green. I’m so not an “author person”.

Wot I said to Amanda!
I didn’t realize that you hadn’t read WG/WG yet! You have a big treat in store for you. Glad you enjoyed this one! I loved it. The only Green I have left to read is An Abundance of Katherines and I haven’t been able to make myself pick it up yet because I know there’s nothing left for now when I’m done with it :p

Nope, not read WG/WG yet. Don’t think it’s been released in the UK yet.
Looks like I might have to hit The Book Depository!
This was my first John Green book and I’ve bought copies of An Abundance of Katherines and Looking for Alaska, the latter I’ll be reading soon. I was lucky enough to receive a review copy of Paper Towns from Bloomsbury and actually read it not long after (in May) but it has been sitting in my “reviews pending” tray since. The emotional resonance of the story and depth of the characters remained with me.

I had the same emotional resonance with Looking for Alaska, I really hope you enjoy that one and the rest, when you get read them.
Kind of embarrassed to admit that I OWN all his books and haven’t read a one.

An appalling state of affairs!
which should be fixed at the earliest opportunity. Seriously though, I think you’ll love his stuff.
I let WG,WG sit on my shelves for a few months, and while on the one hand I’m sad I didn’t read it sooner, on the other hand, I managed to save it for when I was having an awful day, that it then managed to save through the sheer power of its awesomeness.
I’m glad you liked Paper Towns!

Yes, he’s pretty much a perfect bet to lift the reading spirits.
I always have to think of the black santa collection when I want to laugh!
