Weekly Geeks: 2009 #43 | Top Ten Books Published in 2009.
Running a little late, but the current weekly geeks is canvassing the blogosphere for the top ten books published in 2009 .
This is a guest post by Jackie of Literary Escapism who has graciously offered to organize the Book Blogger Top 10 again this year.
For the second year in a row, we’re asking book bloggers to help put together a top 10 list of books published in 2009.So here are the top ten books I’ve read that were published this year…
Now, the idea is to only choose books that were published in 2009, regardless of what country you live in. If a book was released in the US in 2008, but released in your country in 2009, that’s okay. I know there is still a month in a half left of 2009, but if you know there is a book coming out between now and Dec. 31st, then it’s still eligible.
So here’s my list of the books I’ve read that were published this year.
- The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness (YA)
- Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (YA) (UK Publishing Date)
- Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (YA)
- One Day by David Nichols (Contemporary Fiction)
- Starclimber by Kenneth Oppel (YA)
- Seraph of Sorrow by Mary Janice Davidson & Anthony Alonghi (YA)
- After the Moment by Garret Freymann-Weyr (YA)
- The Purloined Boy by Mortimus Clay (MG/YA)
- SLOB by Ellen Potter (MG)
- Numbers by Rachael Ward (YA)

I have to add Leviathan to this. Just my two cents.
Since I didn’t write up my own list of 10.
I’m quite sure it’ll probably make the list had I been making in at the end of the year, but as I have started reading it yet… I can’t really add it to the list as it stands!
Well, there’s ten books added to my to-read list right there….lol. Just when I had the list under control, too.
Oooh…good idea! I shall steal this for my own blog. Sometime soon-ish…
Nice list – I heartily agree w/the Suzanne Collins noms.
My top books published this year that I read would be, in no particular order:
Kabuki: The Alchemy by David Mack
Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley
Burn Me Deadly by Alex Bledsoe
Tales from Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan
The Manual of Detection by Jedediah Berry
The Magician’s Elephant by Kate DiCamillo
Eclipse Three edited by Jonathan Strahan
and
Peter and Max: A Fables Novel by Bill Willingham
They were all excellent and I suspect most if not all will be among my top reads of the year out of all the books I’ve read this year.
I gotta read Patrick Ness!
