Review: The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause

The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause

Surviving mostly on her own whilst her father tends to her seriously ill mother, Zoe is lonely. Then when her best friend announces she has to move away, Zoe is feeling even more alone.

Rather than stay in the house alone, she often spends her evenings wandering the neighbourhood. Anything is better than that empty house. It is during one of these walks she first comes across the pale, tortured looking young man.

Zoe is wary when, in the dead of night, that beautiful yet frightening, young man, Simon comes to her house.

Simon, though seems to understand the pain of loneliness and death and Zoe’s brooding thoughts of her dying mother.

Simon is one of the undead, a vampire, seeking revenge for the gruesome death of his mother three hundred years before.

Does Simon dare ask Zoe to help free him from this lifeless chase and its insufferable loneliness? And can Simon help Zoe overcome her own problems?

My Thoughts

I much preferred this one to Blood and Chocolate, which I found to be a rather cold read, this one had a much more positive vibe about it.

Whilst it has its faults, I did enjoy the way Simon and Zoe’s stories were told, and I liked the way they were able help each other move forward on their own personal journeys. I would be touching on spoiler territory if I was to tell you about them in any detail, suffice it to say I thought the ending was the right one rather than the happy-ever-after one…

An enjoyable start to my R.I.P IV challenge

Rating: ★★★½☆

This one’s been on my TBR pile for ages, I just never seem to get around to it. How does it stack up to other vampire novels?

I have been reluctant to read this one simply because I was so disappointed with Blood and Chocolate. Now to be fair, I like the movie version and that is a big reason why the book disappointed me. Another contributing factor is that my first experience with reading her work was with the novel Freaks, which I LOVED. I found it an amazing read. If you haven’t done so, check it out.

I’ve never seen the movie version of Blood and Chocolate, but the book did very little to enamour me to it, still there was enough there in the writing for me to give her another go. I’ve not come across Freaks, but I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for it!

It’s always great to have a book like that, that you cherish above all others, I’m glad that it is this one for you, for me, it’d have to be Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman or Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

Now I’m worried about the ending. 0.o
I guess I’ll have to get back on the ball and read the books I have now, so I can go get this one. Hmmm…
