About the Book
Something from the Nightside is the first book in a series of urban fantasy novels from Simon R. Green.
The Nightside. That hidden square mile of London, where it is always 3am, where every dark question ever asked can be answered.
Five years ago, John Taylor left the Nightside, vowing never to return.
He’s eking out an existence, working as a PI in a seedy part of the real London, working out of an office that also acts as a place to sleep. When one day, a woman walks in to his office.
Her daughter has gone missing, and John Taylor is her last resort
Whilst the story is hung around the search for his client’s missing daughter the real interest in the story comes from the mysterious John Taylor.
What is his history? His connection to the Nightside? and why did he leave in the first place?
Written in the style of a pulp detective novel and packed with all the elements you’d expect from an urban fantasy novel, Something From the Nightside is as clichéd as hell, but it’s also has some great original twists, and most importantly is a hell of a lot of fun!
“Suzie doesn’t know the meaning of the word ‘fear.’ Other concepts she has trouble grasping are ‘restraint,’ ‘mercy,’ and ‘self-preservation'”
The book was fast-paced and easy to read and the author did a decent job of peaking my interest, for the rest of the series, it was not by any means perfect but it was such good fun I found it hard to care about the faults.
