I read both Tithe and Wicked Lovely and found them both highly enjoyable and well written I just finished Lament: The Faerie Queen’s Deception, and while it, too, shared many of the same themes, I enjoyed it, too. Guess I’m not that picky!

Gah, this has been in my “to be read next” box all summer, even though it’s a re-read, and will probably take me all of a day, and I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I liked this one well enough, although I didn’t love it… but I haven’t read Wicked Lovely to compare.

I read Tithe first, and loved it. Read Wicked Lovely and didn’t think it was half as good. If you like these two, you’ll also enjoy Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones series.

Can’t say your reactions surprised me. That “one before the other” attitude was something I noticed too. It’s actually a pity that you can’t really see one book/author loose from the other now. It’s a shame. I think the authors deserve to have their book read on their own merit, but the similarities between them are so great (down to the very structure of the trilogy, if what I’ve heard of Ink Exchange is true) that there’s no chance of that.

It’s a shame because, for all their similarities, they’re completely different in tone. I am curious why WL edges it for you, though. Because it’s an interesting question, especially considering how intertwined the books are.
(For the record, I’m firmly in the camp which thinks Tithe is a better book than WL. Makes me wonder, also, whether I’d feel the same if I’d read WL first, and I think I would.)
