10 Books That Have Hit the Mark So Far This Year
Well, as many book bloggers are doing, I’m taking a quick look at my reading so far this year, checking out my stats and picking out my favourites so far. (It’ll be interesting to see how many of the ten books I’ve selected feature in my end of year wrap-up. There are some that I’m absolutely certain will do, of course, but the less that do, the more fantastic books I have ahead of me, over the next six months!)
Top Ten
So, here (in reading order) are my top ten books I’ve read during the the first six months of 2009:
- Nation by Terry Pratchett
- Old Man’s War by John Scalzi
- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
- Parasite Positive by Scott Westerfeld
- Zoe’s Tale by John Scalzi
- How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff
- Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer
- Hey Nostradamus! by Douglas Coupland
- The Savage by David Almond – Illustrated by Dave McKean
- The Young City by James Bow

So, how’s your reading going at the halfway point? Any standout reads?

Well…I’ve only read 2 of the books on your list – The Hunger Games (Which I LOVED) and Life as We Knew It (which I was underwhelmed by – Of course, I think I”m the only one out here that feels that way!) I do have some of the others on my list to read someday though!! Namely the John Scalzi books.

What a great year so far! My year hasn’t been as good as years past, but I figure there’s still 6 months to catch up. I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw Nation and Hunger Games on a lot of people’s top 10 lists. I haven’t read either, but I’d like to!
Of course they’re both books from last year, but yes, I think it’s a fairly safe bet.
Man, how did I go so long without reading your blog! Your list made me laugh because I have read 8 of the 10 and have the other two on my TBR pile. I think we have similar reading interests.
I read most of them in the last 6 months, too, but a couple of them date from a while ago (The Coupland, for example). Anyway, great list!

Welcome back!
What can I say? You obviously have exceptional tastes!
I’ve read 62 books so far this year! Our reading stats are eerily similar! Love your top 10 list of books! I really need to continue with the Old Man’s War series. I loved that first book so much!
Chris´s last blog ..The Sunday Salon and Weekly Geeks: Book Trivia!
You really should read some more Scalzi, if only to get to Zoe’s Tale which I suspect you will love!
I have both John Scalzi books to read on my shelf – they are ones I hope to get to next month, based mostly on Chris’ amazing reviews. I really liked both Chris and Kailana writing in that you share their reading tastes and speed! I’m slower – only at 39 – which is still an amazing rate for me. Congratulations on your books read so far, and your to 10 list so far! I’m off to do mine now….
I’ve also added you to my blogroll. It’s very interesting how you’ve done your blog!
Susan´s last blog ..Sunday Salon – Neverwhere , fantasy at its best
Thanks! It’s a new theme so I’m still tweaking things here and there, but I really like it!
You must read the Scalzi books!, you certainly wont regret it!
I haven’t read any of those 10 but do hope to get to Nation and Parasote Positive at some point soonish.
