Review: Midnight Alley & Feast of Fools: Morganville Vampires #3 & #4 By Rachel Caine

A Weekly Geeks Style Review

About the Books

Midnight AlleyMidnight Alley

Claire Danvers has pledged herself to Amelie, the most powerful vampire in town. The protection her contract secures does little to reassure her friends. All of a sudden, people are turning up dead, a stalker resurfaces from Claire’s past, and an ancient bloodsucker extends a chilling invitation for private lessons in his secluded home.

Feast of Fools Feast of Fools

It was hard to imagine how Claire’s day could get any worse…and then the vampires holding her hostage wanted breakfast. In the town of Morganville, vampires and humans have learned to live in relative peace. Still, Claire Danvers knows that after dark, her homework can take a backseat to staying alive. But this tenuous harmony is really turned on its head with the arrival of Mr Bishop. Bad to the bone, the ancient old-school vampire cares nothing about keeping the peace. Staying at the top of the food chain is enough. What he wants from the town’s living and dead is unthinkably sinister. It’s only at a formal ball attended by vampires and their human dates that Claire realises Bishop’s plan and the elaborately evil trap he’s set for the warm-blooded souls of Morganville?

My Thoughts

An, entertaining and enjoyable series with fast paced story telling and wonderful characters.

To do, this review, I put a call out for questions through weekly geeks, these are the questions I was asked and my answers!

Mindnight Alley: Rating: ★★★½☆
Feast of Fools: Rating: ★★★½☆

Jacqueline C. asks:
I have the entire Morganville Vamps series sitting here waiting to be read. What’s a good reason for me to make it my next read?

They’re fun! And packed with interesting and likeable characters, and lets just say the last paragraph in each book leaves you begging for more.

Kailana asks:
What is it about the Morganville Vampire series that keeps you reading?

Well, to be honest I was off work for a week and hand sometime on my hands! But that wouldn’t have mattered if the story arc was no good and didn’t compel you to keep reading. And I’m happy to say that the story arc is intriguing and well thought out.

Dreamybee asks:
I’m not really familiar with any of these titles. What sort of vampire lore is the Morganville Vampires series-funny, romantic, horror, other?

&

softdrink asks:
So…tell me abut the Morganville Vampires. What kind of vampires are they? Young, old, sexy, scary…?

Hmm… That’s an interesting pair of questions. I’d say, that whilst Caine certainly builds, romance and horror, around her vampires, they pretty much echo the humans in town they rule and control, there’s sexy ones, down-right evil ones, ugly ones, shy ones, helpful ones and ones that would sell their own grandmother.

As the books progress we learn more and more about the history of the vamps, as Caine layers in twists and turns. And whilst the vampires in Morganville might be bad, there is always a bigger bad-guy out there to worry about, and when he comes to town, the townspeople and vamps must start working together to preserve their way of life.

Those are interesting covers… I don’t think I would say I like them better than the others, though. They are just different. You are where I am in the series, now.
