Mail Box Monday: Nearly as Bad as Chris…

monday

Okay on with the excuses!

Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

This one is Chris’ fault, just for the general Murakami love on his blog, and his review here.

Numbers by Rachel Ward.

Nobody’s fault other than my own on this one. :D Couldn’t resist the plot!
Rachel Ward’s Numbers features a heroine who can see the date that people will die, which on a trip to the London Eye sets terrifying events in motion.

The Final Warning by James Patterson

Thanks to bookmooch for this one, I’ve read the other Maximum Ride books and while they have a fair few faults, the chance to catch up with Max and the gang again, could not be missed!

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

Yes, I picked it up for the Decades challenge, but I could have chosen all sorts of books, so the fact I chose Steinbeck is down to Rob (and his new dog).

Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

Another bookmooch find for the Decades challenge.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

The number of bloggers I could assign blame to on this one is shocking, but it was Becky’s review, that convinced me.

Speaking with the Angel by Nick Hornby et all.

An interesting looking collection of short stories, found on Bookmooch.

For current Bad Bloggers standings look at the sidebar to the right. Oh… did I forget to mention I was taking part? Ooops! Chris looks like he’s in trouble so far, but in what must be an almost unique occurrence, Nymeth has yet to score!

Awesome! Norwegian Wood is such an incredible book. One of my favorites of all time. Hope you enjoy it too. I’ve been wanting to get a copy of Speaking with the Angel. Looking forward to seeing how it is. I’ve tried to mooch it twice and both times people canceled on me because they lost the book! Sucks. Hope it’s good!

I’m looking forward to reading Norwegian Wood, I’ve heard such good things about it.

Hoping, Angel, is good too, and I promise not to mock you, when you still haven’t managed to mooch a copy!

  2. Nymeth says:

lol :P It’s only right and proper that the blame is being sent Chris’ way… he is a very Bad Blogger indeed!

I hope you enjoy Norwegian Wood…it’s one of my favourite books.

    • Bart says:

Well I’ve seen so many good things about the books and Murakami’s writing in general, I couldn’t not give him ago, and I love the cover, (and the rest are available in a matching style, would look great as a collection!)

And, yep, nothing wrong with a bit of Chris blamage! ;)

  3. Rob says:

    Darren,
I’m delighted that the ‘golden furball’ and I inspired you to choose Steinbeck for your reading challenge. No words exist to convey how much I love his writing (the writer and not the dog of course – the dog’s clever but not that clever..yet! :o )).

‘Of Mice and Men’ is a nice short one so it shouldn’t take you too long to get through it, but oh will it stick with you forever!!

‘Norwegian Wood’ is sitting on my shelf too (along with four other Murakami’s). Alexa was talking about it yesterday on Sunday Salon, and it gave me yearnings. Arrgghh….and now Nymeth is evangalising about it too!! Looks like we both have to read this one sooner rather than later :o )

Anyway good luck with this little lot and I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the greatest writer that has ever lived…and no I don’t mean Neil Gaiman Darren :-p
    Warmest
    Rob

    • Bart says:

What do you mean, you don’t mean Neil Gaiman? Rob. :? Who else could you be talking about? ;)

It’s one I’ve thought about reading Of Mice and Men for years too be honest, at it even gets a recommendation from my Uni going nephew, and for him to read a book is a rare enough occurrence, for him to like one as well…

  4. Sandra says:

You’ve got some truly great reading there. Norwegian Wood is very good and Mice and Men as well as Heart of Darkness are each one of a kind in good literature. I only got two books in the mail this week but both good ones I think. Happy reading.

I loved Norwegian Wood and Heart of Darkness! I didn’t like Of Mice and Men, but I read it back in high school, so my tastes might have changed now. :)
