One Year On
The actual ‘birthdate’ of this blog is a fairly fluid thing, I’ve had a blog or an LJ since about 2003, and posted the odd book review in them on and off since almost the very start, so if you have a look in my archives, you can find reviews dating back to 2004, that I managed to find from various archives.
Then over the Christmas break in 2007 I was mulling over getting back to blogging (but with a little more focus) and that I would really wanted to get back to reading in the quantities I used to a few years previously.
I actually installed WordPress and bought my url: http://www.bartsbookshelf.co.uk in early January, and made the first post on January 7th; however I am of the opinion a book review blog, can only truly, be ‘born’ once it has posted it’s first review. The first review that was posted and could be found at http://www.bartsbookshelf.co.uk (it took ages for the URL to propagate properly) was of a Christmas/Birthday present I had received. Roasted, by Andy Riley (of Bunny Suicides fame). And that was posted one year ago today, 20th January 2008.
What I didn’t know back then, was just what fantastic people I would come across and just how much fun the book blog-o-sphere was going to be. Now that I’ve settled in somewhat, I can’t tell you how stoked I am about the upcoming blog year, and being as much a part of your blogs as your are mine!
To help celebrate I am going to pinch an idea straight from Chris and hold a giveaway! (My second of this year!) Simply comment on this post with your selection of any book I’ve reviewed this last year, and in one weeks time me and random.org will get together and pick a winner out of the hat! This is open worldwide, so feel free to enter!
Thanks again for hanging out with me everyone!!!

Happy Blogiversary Bart!!! It’s been a real pleasure discovering your blog and getting to know you. Hope you’re around for many years to come
And it’s impossible for me to choose just one book from your list, because you make everything sound tempting, so I’m going to give you a list to choose from should I somehow win
Silk, Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac, The First book of the Tomorrow series, Sky Burial, Boy A, and On Chesil Beach…phew!

My TBR pile and wishlist are both already populated with books you’ve reviewed, but looking through the list, there are still a bunch I’d like to read! If I have to pick one, how about The End of Mr. Y.
