Booking Through Thursday : Book Meme
![]()
I’ve seen this series of questions floating around the ‘net the last few days, and thought it looked like a good one for us!
What was the last book you bought?

As you can see I’ve bought a few recently, as I’ve been calling in at the local Oxfam during my lunch break at work and picking up, some nice short quick reads for the upcoming 24th Hour Read-a-Thon.
If you like the look of these books then you might want to check back on this site in a few days time as I will be announcing a read-a-thon based giveaway for these books and a couple more!
Name a book you have read MORE than once
I must admit, I’m not a massive re-reader of books, but one that does get quite a bit of re-reading is, The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy (less so the sequels).
Has a book ever fundamentally changed the way you see life? If yes, what was it?
Can’t say it has to be honest.
How do you choose a book? eg. by cover design and summary, recommendations or reviews
Any and all of those!
Every book is different though, for one it might be the cover, for another it might be a recommendation, but more and more so reviews are shaping my choices.
Do you prefer Fiction or Non-Fiction?
Fiction, although I do occasionally dabble with the odd travelogue or autobiography.
What’s more important in a novel – beautiful writing or a gripping plot?
I’d say plot (although as every it is a mixture of all things, that a make a really good book work) – it was certainly the plot that carried me through The Davinci Code for example – and yet I fail to get on with most Booker prize winners etc. Still if the writing is really annoying then nothing will keep me reading it.
Most loved/memorable character (character/book)
DEATH! (The name in caps should give you a clue as to the book(s)
)
Which book or books can be found on your nightstand at the moment?
What was the last book you’ve read, and when was it?
I’m going to take this question literally and answer it with the last book I ‘read’ rather than ‘listened’ to, and you can take a look at the review I wrote last week of Possessing Rayne by Kate Cann, just after finishing the book.
Have you ever given up on a book half way in?
Yes, quite a few times, I’ll give a book plenty of chances, but if it just isn’t working then I’ll give up with no qualms. Sometimes I also stop reading for no reasons, two times I have started to read The Lord of the Rings and both times I have flown through 3/4 of the thing and for some reason put the book down for a day or two and just never felt like picking it back up. (Shocking behaviour I know!)

I used to read cover to cover; I was driven! But now I’ve recently decided that life is too short to waste my valuable reading time.
Come see my answer.

I love all the Hitchhiker books, but you are right the original is the best of the five.

I’m the same with Lord of the Rings, started it, enjoyed it but never managed to get it finished

I would definitely re-read the first Hitchhiker book, but I was never fond of the others.
