Synopsis

Jeremy Marsh, a science journalist and debunker from New York, has set his sights on finding the real reasons behind the mysterious lights that appear in an ancient southern cemetery, and he heads to the tiny town of Boone Creek, North Carolina, in search of the truth. Sceptical by nature, he comes face to face with Lexie Darnell, the town’s librarian, and as he slowly finds the answers he’s looking for, he gradually begins to understand that science can only go so far when it comes to unravelling the mysteries of the human heart. Part love story, part ghost story, TRUE BELIEVER makes us believe in the impossible, trust in fate, and the undeniable power of love…

Towards the end of last year I read one of Spark’s earlier novels “A Walk to Remember,” and quite enjoyed it, as a guy I liked the way he kept the mush to a minimum and concentrated on characters and their journey, so when I got the opportunity to mooch this one, I thought what the hell? and wnet for it.

  • Was it the waste of a mooch point? No not really.
  • Was it worth the mooch point? Sort of.

Once again, Sparks builds likable - if stereotyped characters, who you do care about and want to succeed, but the rest of the story is, instantly forgettable.

I had hopes that the tale of the small towns “ghosts” would play out as an fascinating back-story, (giving me the excuse to be reading a ‘romance’ story. :)) but unfortunately it just drags onwards to its ‘okay’ conclusion.
one Creek, back on the map, is mildly amusing, but nothing really shines in this novel unfortunately, and while I mooched it’s sequel at the same time, it will more than likely have to wait until I have nothing left to read on my shelves.
